Pitching

The wonderful people at Writing Excuses have just covered pitching. Just for fun, I decided to make a few pitches for my book.

Elevator Pitches/Taglines:
These are the pitches that could be said during an elevator ride. Somehow, most of them ended up as fairly melodramatic.

  1. Three kids who don't know what they're doing become the leaders who must fight off invasion.
  2. Two universes used to be synchronized. Some centuries ago, the link between them started decaying. Soon, both sides will shatter.
  3. A right of passage goes horribly wrong. And that's only the beginning.
  4. Your reflection could be your best friend...or your worst enemy.
  5. How can three teenagers keep from being assassinated? Easy: act crazy and become crazy.

Minute Pitches:
These are each supposed to be 3-paragraphs, but I'm going to keep these short for now.
  1. Y'lutem'lo deconstructs the concept of "Mirror Universe." While the two universes are certainly enemies, one universe is not evil, per se, they just have different values. What else could be expected when one universe always loses people and the other only receives them--and the person who travels between them will invariably outlive their counterpart? Utilization of the portal between worlds has been restricted for several centuries to only those too young to have been indoctrinated with their old universe's society...until now.
  2. The 20 Provinces were each given a fragments of the Great Mirror, the gateway between their universe and the Mirror Universe. Centuries later, each Mirror fragment is a symbol of power and it is the prize for anyone who wants to take over. Boni, a province who has begun a tradition of invasion of the other provinces, has decided to do things a little differently this time with the province of Adarm: they kill all of Adarm's leaders before invading. The only people left in Adarm with clearance to take up the reigns of power are three teenagers who are fully aware that they shouldn't be anywhere near controlling the province for decades, at least. They have mere days before the Boni army arrives. Their only chance to win is to sacrifice everything.
  3. Chutwex, Quikterr, and Mmiiick did not expect to become members of the Councils--let alone the High Council--for a score of years at least. They become the High Council before they even start their Hiatus Quest and are tasked with defending the province they call home. Chutwex and Quikterr take advantage of the fact that no one takes them seriously and prepare the military in ways that are hardly orthodox. Mmiiick, on her part, convinces everyone that she committed the worst crime possible and is on the run, while in truth she remains right under everyone's noses. Can these three stop the invasion that is certain to come? The better question is this: how are these three going to make things worse than they already are?

In-Depth Pitch:
I'm too lazy to write this down right now. I'd be happy to make a discussion out of it, though.
