I'm happy. Would you like to know why? I'll tell you even if you don't care.
Battle of the Books.
Now, you may be thinking, "Hey! You're too old for that!" It's true: I am. But that doesn't mean I can't suggest titles for next year.
And this year, they have put no fewer than four of my suggestions on the list they're going to go through a week from now.
Now, let me put this into perspective: I've been putting books on the nomination message board for several years now, but none of mine have ever been chosen. I remember that last year they got something like 70 book titles nominated for one grade division and two or three of everyone's ended up on the official list (no idea where the other nine or ten came from). I called them out on not listening to us nominators and it looks like they've learned their lesson.
Now, I know it's not official yet, but I'm feeling optimistic about this. Even if only one title I mentioned ends up on the list, I'll be happy.
Oh, did you want to know what four books I'm talking about are? Well, here's the list:
The Grimm Legacy by Polly Shulman
The Gospel According to Larry by Janet Tashjian
Leviathan by Scott Westerfeld
And...
Alcatraz Versus the Evil Librarians by Brandon Sanderson
Yes, I am very happy right now.
